TORONTO, Oct. 9, 2026 /CNW/ -- Ahead of International Day of the Girl on October 11, Save the Children is proud to announce broadcaster, producer and philanthropist Sangita Patel as its newest Ambassador, bringing her voice and platform to advance children's rights, education and leadership in Canada and around the world.
Patel, longtime reporter and co-host of Entertainment Tonight Canada, joins Save the Children at a critical moment for girls worldwide. Millions face barriers including conflict, poverty, child marriage, gender-based violence and unequal access to education, challenges often intensified by humanitarian crises. When girls are given the opportunity to learn, lead and thrive, the benefits extend far beyond the individual, strengthening families, communities and future generations.
Driven by a longstanding passion for children's rights and girls' education, Patel leverages her platform to amplify voices that deserve to be heard and inspire action on issues affecting children. Her recent experience with Save the Children in Sierra Leone reinforced her belief in the transformative power of investing in girls and ensuring every child has the opportunity to reach their full potential.
"I recently visited Sierra Leone, and what I witnessed was incredibly powerful," said Sangita Patel, Save the Children Ambassador. "I met girls who were using their voices, supporting one another and shaping their own futures. As a mother, I often say I see all children as my children. Every child deserves the opportunity to learn, be heard, and pursue their dreams. That's why I'm proud to support Save the Children's work to ensure children everywhere have the support and opportunities they need to thrive."
During her visit, Patel saw firsthand how girls participating in Save the Children's Girl Shine safe spaces were gaining the confidence, skills and support needed to advocate for themselves, stay in school and create positive change in their communities.
"Around the world, millions of children continue to face barriers that stand in the way of their learning, wellbeing and future opportunities," said Danny Glenwright, President and CEO of Save the Children. "During my time working in Sierra Leone, I witnessed firsthand the profound impact of gender-based violence on girls, including the harmful effects of female genital mutilation and other challenges related to sexual and reproductive health. Sangita is a passionate advocate who understands that investing in children, especially girls, is one of the most powerful ways to create lasting change. Her authenticity, compassion and ability to connect people to the realities and aspirations of children make her an exceptional Ambassador as we work toward a world where every child can learn, lead and thrive."
As Ambassador, Patel will support Save the Children's efforts to raise awareness and mobilize Canadians around issues affecting children, with a particular focus on girls' rights, education, health and leadership.
